In the 1990’s I visited Tokyo several times. While there I spent hours making drawings and water colors sketches in densely populated, signage filled neighborhood of Shinjuku. When I returned to my studio in the U.S. I began painting large-scale oil paintings based on these visual notes made in the hustle and bustle of the streets.
